Design
The dynamics of a good sign will only be recognised if it has been created to suit the environment and location that surrounds it. The fact is that bad design does more harm than good and nobody profits from it. At I D Signs, we take the time to ensure our designs are configured to suit our customers' demands and the following factors are always considered;
Information This must be conveyed almost immediately as the viewer is usually on the move or the sign is competing for attention in a crowded market place. Too much information and the sign will be ignored completely, not enough and the sign will not be fulfilling its potential.
Location Where the sign is situated will affect the response of its target audience. Making sure your sign is visually accessible is paramount to its efficiency.Size The location and the type of message being portrayed will usually decide the dimensions of the sign. Too small could lead to the sign being ignored, while too large could be considered overbearing and intrusive.
Typefaces Whether the sign has to match existing branding or simply express a clear concise message, the choice and size of type can be crucial to the execution of a good sign.
Colours Using the correct colours is key to expressing the right message, not only this but the sign manufacturer is responsible for matching a multitude of colouring techniques. Painting, powder coating, vinyls, digital printing and screen printing are prime examples and a good understanding of all these methods and their references is essential.Graphics It may be necessary to enhance your sign with an image or photograph, as the old adage says 'a picture speaks a thousand words'. This is true as long as the image is conveying a strong and direct message. Using fussy pictures with too many elements will only make the sign confusing.
Materials At the design stage it is already important to be thinking about the use of materials. Certain substrates cannot be used in various situations. Exposure to heat, sunlight, wind and traffic pollution are just a few examples that can affect how a sign is made.Illumination If a sign will be predominantly used between dusk and dawn, it is important that the sign is designed with the illumination in mind. From basic trough lights to intricate LED halo illuminated letters, a designer must incorporate these features from the start as they will affect both the appearance and the manufacturing process.
Designing a quality, eye-catching sign is an art form in itself. We listen to our customers and take onboard their ideas to find out exactly what they want to achieve from their sign. When we have gathered all the information we need, only then will we begin the process of designing the perfect sign.![]()
